MICHAEL OUTRAM
Starting his coaching career at the age of 16, Michael Outram has influenced the lives of so many people. Born February 1967 in Ontario, Michael’s parents were blessed with a child of many talents. Michael was not only a coach but an athlete himself, and with quite a title. He attended World Championships for Gymnastics in 1985 (Montreal) and 1987 (Rotterdam). As a trampolinist, Michael trained as an athlete under Dave Ross, the current Olympic coach. Alongside gymnastics, Michael was also a diver and a dancer, making a name for himself in both those disciplines as well.
Michael attended Seneca College of Applied Arts and graduated from the coaching program. He then became a coach at Rose City Gymnastics in Windsor, Ontario, where he established a men’s provincial program. After Rose City, Michael coached all over Canada. Starting back at Seneca, where he graduated, he was asked to coach the trampoline program. Then he went on to coach for the city of Ellington, York University, Brooks, St. John Aquatic Center and the City of Windsor. His most memorable coaching experience was in New Brunswick. He was hired as a coach but he instead was the man to put Fredericton’s Kingwood Men’s National Training Center on the map. Michael was able to bring 12 candidates for the 2000 Olympic Gymnastics Team to Kingwood to train, against all odds. Not only did Michael coach but he was also a part of the board of directors in New Brunswick. Now moving back to Ontario from New Brunswick, he returned to Rose City to become the Technical Director. Michael now currently coaches in Oakland, Michigan where he is working with all levels of gymnastics and helping create a base program for the club.
Now, one would think that coaching would take up all one’s time but not for Michael. In his spare time, Michael is an instructor for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), which he has been doing for the past 13 years.
